Professor Smith has a history of quantum technology research introducing lateral gated quantum dots and developing RF readout techniques for single electron detection. He also developed microfluidic pumping techniques using AC voltages and no moving parts. He was the founder of a company that developed nano-mechanical switches. The company was acquired once the RF product was in in production and selling into mobile phones for tunning applications.
